Cactus / ritteri

An aztekium ritteri was in flower yesterday afternoon.

This cactus was degrafted with a short Pereskiopsis stock. The cactus has relied on the stock.

The rooting of ritteri is very difficult and I have never experienced a successful rooting result.

Because of above reason, I have kept the short stock.

  1. Hi Frank,

Do the short stocks of pereskiopsis ever need to be manually removed, even 5-10 years down the road? I realize the short stocks are something like training wheels for the scions until the scions push out their own roots but is there really nothing to worry about regarding what is essentially dead organic material attached to the bottom of the scion?
