Cactus / red flowering asterias

An other red flowering asterias was in flower.
I bought seed and sowed in 2007.
It is old enough but the body size is just 6 cm in diameter.

Cactus / ruri kabuto

A young ruri kabuto was in flower.
Seed was sown in 2012.

The photo is one of them, an Astrophytum myriostigma cv khoyo, kikkou.
I degrafted it and rooted last spring.
It turns the body color between autumn and spring but it shows now summer color, green.

To increase red colour, I crossed with a red flowering asterias.

Seed was sown in 2004.
The current size is 14 cm in diameter.
Since it is 14 years old and I can not expect gaining the size.

Several Echinocactus horizonthalonius were in flower yesterday.

Since they are kept in a greenhouse, spines are thinner than habitat ones.

I could harvest seeds of Strombocactus disciformis from my cacti.
Steeds were sown in a plastic container, over tissue paper.
The photo is 24 days after sowing.
The germination rate with this method is quite reasonable.
Seedlings are very small and growing very slowly.

Fused scions grafted in November last year have grown well.
The attached photo is one of them, Astrophytum myriostigma cv Onzuka + Ariocarpus retusus v forfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower.
It seems Astrophytum grows faster than Ariocarpus.

Although a standard asterias has 8 ribs, this one has 13 ribs.
5 ribs were added when the cactus reached to a mature age.

The current size is 18 cm in diameter.
I hope it could reach to 20 cm in diameter which is my target size.

The cactus was degrafted last September and rooted.
It has not shown yet the character of hanazon at all.

Cacti propagated from a same seed pack show various spine length.
This one has very short spines.
Seed was sown in 2003.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2004.
A seedling was grafted once but it was degrafted and rooted in 2006.

This is a small plant, just 6 cm in diameter.
The flower colour is not standard.
The flower of standard capricorne is yellow but this one is reddish.

I have continued repotting them.

An asterias cv red flowering hanazono kabuto turned to a monstorous form when it was grafted.
I degrafted it in September.
I thought the monstorous form could not make any flowers but it was in flower.

It has been able to survive and been in flower.

The cactus has never shown the character of "fukuryu".

It seems this one gains no longer the body size.

An aztekium ritteri was in flower.
This one was degrafted with a short Pereskiopsis stock, and rooted.
I have never gotten any successful own-rooting result of A. ritteri.

The maximum temperature reached to 30 'C today.
It was 42 'C in the greenhouse in the afternoon.
Some A. myriostigma related species were in flower.
The photo is an A. myriostigma cv Onzuka.

Cactus / Astrophytum hybrid

An astrophytum hybrid, senil x super kabuto was in flower.
The diameter of the cactus is around 15 cm.
The hybridisation makes a small body size normally but it does not.

Cactus / hanazono-super kabuto

The photo is an Astrophytum asterias cv hanazono-super kabuto which I created.
I crossed a super kabuto with a hanazono kabuto.
Since the character of hanazono appears on a matured plant, it is just about showing the character.

This one shows a strong ornatm's gene.

A degrafed and rooted Pelecyphora strobiliformis was in flower.
The rooting of Pelecyphora is not hard.
