Cactus / myriostigma

 A matured Astrophytum myriostigma was in flower yesterday.

I think the weather is still abnormal. It is summer but the flower is quite small.

Flowers of Astrophytum opened in autumn are small normally.

Cactus / fukuryu banjyaku

 Three astrophytum hybrids, fukuryu banjyaku were in flower in this afternoon.

A friend gave me seeds and I sowed in 2012. Young seedlings were grafted and degraftedrooted later.

The photo is one of them.

Cactus / ornatum

 A gymnocalycium spegazzinii var ornatum was in flower.

Sinc I liked gymnocalycium with strong spines, I bought many seeds of spegazzinii variants in 2003 and 2004.

The cactus on the photo is one of them.

Cactus horizonthalonius

 Merry Christmas! It will be 31 'C in the afternoon today.

I could see some fowers of Echinocactus horizonthalonius yesterday.

The photo is one of them, E. horizonthalonius v nicholii.

Cactus / myriostigma

 A matured Astrophytum myriostigma was in flower.

This one had a problem last year, which was rotting of bottom part of body.

I cut lower body off completely and rerooted. It seems the rerooting works well.

Cactus / Astrophytum hybrid

 An astrophytum hybrid, capricorne x red flowering asterias was in flower yesterday.

It is still young and small, about 7 cm in diameter.

The cactus is 1st filial hybrid with  red flowers. The stigma is also red.

Cactus / super kabuto

 Many asterias were in flower yesterday.

The photo is one of them, a matured super kabuto which is 13 cm in diameter.

The cactus has spiral areole lines.

Cactus / Astrophytum hybrid

 The temperature in this summer is unusual.  I have experienced 1st time, the maximum temperature is less than 20 'C in summer.

I could see many cacti flowering buds but just one could open yesterday.

It is showed on the photo which is Astrophytum hybrid, senile x super kabuto.

Cactus / fukuryu hannya

 An astrophytum hybrid, fukuryu hannya was in flower yesterday.

The cactus is in a 12.5 cm square pot.

Since I took the photo before the flower was opened fully, the flower looked small.

Cactus / grusonii

 An echinocactus grusonii was in flower in this afternoon.

It is on the ground, around 60 cm in diameter.

I propagated it from seed, 22 yeras old.

Cactus / vatteri

 A gymnocalycium vatteri was in flower yesterday. This cactus was propagated from seed.

The cactus could not make any flowers last several years. I  repotted it in spring.

I think the repotting worked well and the cactus could make flowers.

Cactus / ritteri

 An aztekium ritteri was in flower yesterday afternoon.

This cactus was degrafted with a short Pereskiopsis stock. The cactus has relied on the stock.

The rooting of ritteri is very difficult and I have never experienced a successful rooting result.

Because of above reason, I have kept the short stock.

Cactus / cardenasianum

 A gymnocalycium segazzinii v cardenasianum was in flower.

I propagated this cactus from seed. I bought seeds and sowed in 2006.

Thick spines limit the flower to open freely.

Cactus / super kabuto

 Many matured asterias were in flower yesterday afternoon. The photo is one of them, superkabuto.

The cactus is propagated from seed. I collected seeds from my plants and sowed in 2006.

The cactus shows a typical starfish body shape.

Cactus / strobiliformis

 Two Pelecyphora strobiliformis were in flower yestreday. The photo is one of them.

It is a rooted off-set of grafted plant. The rooting of Pelecyphora off-set is easy.

Since this one was an off-set of grafted plant, it is hairy appearence.

Cactus / horridispinum

 A gymnocalycium horridispinum was in flower.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2003. I am not sure the name but I just refer to the name of seed tag.

Since spines are thick, one flower can not open.

Cactus / horizonthalonius

 4 echinocactus horizonthalonius v moelleri were in flower yesterday.

The photo is one of them, 12 cm in diameter. 

Var moelleri has shorter spines compared with a standard horizonthalonius.

I am not sure the name but I just refer to the name tag of seeds.

Cactus / hybrid

 A degrafted 1st filial hybrid, Turbinicarpus alonsoi x Strombocactus disciformis was in flower.

It is still quite young. Sinc I wanted to see the result earlier, a young seedlng was grafted.

The flower colour comes from alonsoi and body shape is mixed both parents.

Cactus / loricatum

 A gymnocalycium spegazzinii v loricatum was in flower yesterday.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2003. It has grown well, 18 cm in diameter.

Loricatus  has short and thick spines.

Cactus / armatum

 A gymunocalycium spegazzinii v armatum was in flower yesterday.

I bought 20 seeds and sowed in 2003. Just 2 cacti have survived. This one is 14 cm in diameter.

Variants of spegazzinii are very similar.

Cactus / super kabuto

 An astrophytum was in flower yesterday. The late spring in this year is qite cool and it was hard to see asterias flowers but the temperature in greenhouses reached to 45 'C yesterday.

I think this super kabuto is mixed slightly the gene of red flowering.

The current size is 12 cm in diameter.

Cactus / Astrophytum hybrids

 The photo is Astrophytum hybrids, capricorne x red flowering asterias.

It is the 1st filial hybrid. Target was red flwering capricone.

 Two pelecyphora aselliformis were in flower yesterday. The photo is one of them.

It was 2nd flowering in this season for them.

They are rooted off-sets collected from a grafted plant.

 A gymnocalycium hossei v rhodantherum was in flower yesterday afernoon.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2004.

I am not sure the true name but I refer to the name tag of seeds.

Cactus / strobiliformis

 Two degrafted Pelecyphora strobiliformis were in flower yesterday afternoon.

The attached photo is one of them.

The rooting of strobiliformis is not difficult. The cactus on the photo has own-roots.

Cactus / myriostigma

 An astrophytum myriostigma v nudum was in flower yesterday.

It was the 2nd flowering in this season for the cactus.

As you can see on the photo, this cactus is mixed fukuryu gene slightly.

Cactus / loricatum

A gymnocalycium spegazzinii v loricatum was in flower yesterday.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2003.

Loricatum has short spines but each one has different spine length in my place.

 

Cactus / super kabuto

 Yesterday was very hot. Today is also. The temperature will reach to 33 'C in the afternoon.

Just one matuerd super kabuto was in flower yesterday because of too hot.

Although it is a matured cactus, the diameter is only 13 cm .

Cactus / horizonthalonius

 A degrafted Echinocactus horizonthalonius was in flower yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday was a hot day. The temperature in greenhouse reached to 42 'C.

I think the hot temperature gave the trigger to open flowers.

Cactus / myriostigma

 A matured  Astrophytum myriostigma was in flower.

I found rotting on bottom part of this cacti last year.  Bottom part was cut off completely and rerooted.

As you can see on the photo, the cactus has recovered well and gotten flowers.

Cactus / heterochromus

 Three thelocactus heterochromus were in flower yeterday. The photo is one of them.

Flowers are bit small compared to normal year because of lower temperature in this year.

Their bodies are around 15 cm in diameter.

Cactus / kikko super kabuto

 Several matured asterias were in flower yesterday.

The photo is one of them, asterias cv kikko super kabuto which is 16 cm in diameter.

It was a normal super kabuto when the cactus was young but it turened to a kikko form lately.

Cactus / Astrophytum hybrid

 Rain stopped yeasrday afternoon. I could see some cacti flowers in the afternoon.

The photo is one of them, Astrophytum hybrid, capricorn x red flowering asterias.

The cactus is degrafted one and a short Pereskiopsis stock is still attached.

Cactus ritteri

 It is the 2nd flowering for this cactus, Aztekium ritteri in this season.

I took the photo in this afternoon.

This spring is abnormal, not so many sunshine days and so I can not see so many cacti flowers.

Cactus / loricatum

 An other Gymnocalycuim species, spegazzinii v loricatum was in flower yesterday afternoon.

The loricatum is a spegazzinii with short spines.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2003. The current size is 15 cm in diameter.

Cactus / vatteri

 Gymnocalycium species have started to be in flower.

A vatteri which has single spine was in flower yesterday.

It is just 10 cm in diameter. I do not think the cactus can gain more in diameter.

Cacts hintonii

 An aztekium hintonii was in flower yesterday.

I have kept 6 hintoniies but only this one is a flowering size.

Since I pollinated the flower, I can see the result in near future.

Cactus / Onzuka

 An astrophytum myriostigma cv Onzuka was in flower yesterday afternoon.

It was 1st flowering of Onzuka in this season.

I hope many of other Onzukas to follow this one.

Cactus / super kabuto

 Several asterias were in flower in this afternoon.

The photo is one of them, asterias cv super kabuto.

The body of super kabuto is smaller than that of standard asterias. This one is 12 cm in diameter.

Cactus / disciformis

 4 Strombocactus disciformis were in flower yesterday.

They all are degrafted ones. Large two have own-roots and small ones have short stocks.

Seedlings of Strombocactus are very small and growing very slowly. Because of this matter, I used grafting /degrafting method.

Cactus / alonsoi

 4 turbinicarpus alonsoi were in flower in this morning.

Two large ones were degrafted and rooted, and small two are seedlings with own-roots.

The standard aonsoi is a small cactus but it becomes a large body if it was grafted once.

Cactus Astrophytum hybrid

 An astrophytum hybrid, capricorne x red flowering astrias was in flower yesterday.

As you can see, the flower colour of asterias has been transferred well.

The cactus is 8 cm in diameter.

Cactus / ritteri

 This small cactus is a degrafted Aztekium ritteri which was in flower yesterday.

It has still attached a short pereskiopsis stock. The cactus relies on the short stock currently.

The cactus is in a 6.5 cm square pot.

Cactus / myriostigma

 An astrophytum myriostigma was in flower yesterday.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2003. Scars of mealybug attack can give the hint of its age.

Since the pot is bit tight, I will repot soon.

Cactus / aselliformis

 The temperature in greenhouse reached to 40 'C yesterday afternoon. Several cacti were in flower.

The photo is one of them, Pelecyphora aselliformis.

This one is a rooted off-set. The rooting of aselliformis is not difficult.

Cactus / pectinifera

 This small cactus is Mammillaria pectinifera which has started to be in flower.

I propagated this cactus from seed.

One off-set is very healthy with flowers but other two including main body are not.

Cactus / Neoporteria species

 A Neoporteria species were in flower yesterday. I bought a small plant in 2003 but the growing speed was not fast. I do not know the exact name of this cactus.

I bought several other Neoporteria species at same time but all of them died except this one.

I hope this one lived in my greenhouse at least 10 more years.

Cactus / winkleri

 A pediocactus winkleri was in flower yesterday. It is the 1st time Pediocactus is in flower in my place.

My friend gave me a small seedling in 2020 and I grafted it on a Pereskiopsis stock.

The scion grew quickly and I degrafted in 2021.  The cactus on the photo is one of rooted off-sets.
