Cactus / Astrophytum hybrid

May will be soon. Only one Astrophytum species was in flower yesterday afternoon.

It was a hybrid, capricorn x red flowering asterias.

I think the flower is true red which comes from father's gene.

Cactus / Daruma Seiji

I thought it seemed the flowering of Ariocarpus was interrupted but I found 4 retusus v furfuraceus cv Daruma Seijies were in flower in this afternoon.

The photo is one of them, around 12 cm in diameter.

I sowed seeds harvested from my cacti in 2008.

Cactus jarmilae

 I bought 25 seeds of ariocarpus retusus v jarmilae MM 110 and sowed in 2003.

Some of them have survived.

The photo is one of them, 16 cm in diameter.

Cactus / fissuratus

A young Ariocarpus fissuratus was in flower.

It was 1st flowering for the cactus. I sowed seed in 2013, which was harvested from my cactus.

The cactus on the photo is still small, in a 6.5 cm square pot.

Cactus / retusus

 An ariocarpus retusus was in flower.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2003. Several young seedlings were grafted and degrafted later.

It is one of them, which relies on own-root currently.

It seems not to be able to gain diameter, just becoming taller.

Cactus / bicolor

 An ariocarpus retusus v bicolor was in flower.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2006. The name tag said " Ariocarpus retusus v bicolor n. prov KMR61".

Since the old pot was tight, I repotted in January. This one is in flower every year in this season.

Cactus / pectinatus

 An ariocarpus retusus v pectinatus was in flower.

My friend gave me seeds and I sowed them in 2018. 12 young seedlings were grafted but mice ate scions and only 3 survived.

I degrafted and rooted them in 2020.

Cactus / Big Bend

 A degrafted ariocarpus fissuratus f Big Bend was in fower.

It was 2nd flowering in this autumn for the cactus.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2003. Young seedlings were grafted once and degrafted later.

Cactus / scaphirostris

 A degrafted ariocarpus scaphirostris was in flower.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2005. Young seedlings were grafted and degrafted later.

Only one has survived unfortunately.

Scaphirostris is a small cactus but this one is 12 cm in diameter because of grafted once.

Cactus / kotschoubeyanus

Three ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus f Rio Verde were in flower.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2004. Young seedlings were grafted and degrfted later.

Since they were grafted once, they became a large block. The photo is one of them.

Cactus / Daruma Seiji

 Several ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Daruma Seijies were in flower.

The photo is one of them, which is 2nd flowering in this autumn.

The flower of Daruma Seiji is white on 1st day but it turns to pink stripes 2~3 days later.

Cactus / Daruma Royal

 A degrafted ariocarpus v furfuraceus cv Daruma Royal was in flower yesterday afternoon.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2004.  A young seedling was grafted and degrafted later.

It has been a large block.

Cactus / trigonus

 A degrafted ariocarpus trigonus was in flower yesterday.

A short Pereskiopsis stock is still attached on the bottom and the cactus relies on the short stock.

Trigonus is in flower late autumn normally.

Cactus / cauliflower

 Five ariocarpus retusus cv Suguri cauliflower were in flower yesterday.

Many ariovarpus species are in flower around Easter in here.

The photo is one of them which shows the character of cultivar well.

Cactus / confusus

 Two ariocarpus trigonus v confusus were in flower yesterday afternonn.

Since two cacti were in flower together, I could pollinate them. 

I hope I could harvest some seeds next spring. The photo is one of them.

Cactus / Shinkawa Tama-zouge

 An ariocarpus retusus cv Shinkawa Tama-zouge was in flower yesterday afternoon.

I assume this cultivar was developed by Mr Shinkawa. This cultivar has long tubercles.

I boght seeds and sowed in 2005. It is 18 cm in diameter.

Cactus / lloydii

 An ariocarpus fissuratus v lloydii was in flower yesterday afternoon.

I bought 30 seeds and sowed in 2005. The germination rate of seeds was not so good.

Since just one cactus has survived and I can not increase number of this species.

Cactus / intermedius

 An ariocarpus fissuratus v intermedius was in flower, which is 12 cm in diamter.

It is the 2nd flowering for this cactus in this autumn.

The intermedius is the species between lloydii and fissuratus.  

Cactus / retusus

 An ariocarpus retusus was in flower yesterday afternoon.

Since this one was propagated from seed and never grafted, the volume of wool is small.

It is 13 cm in diameter currently.

Cactus / Daruma Seiji

 Several ariocarpus retusus related species were in flower.

The photo is on of them, a retusus v furfuraceus cv Daruma Seiji which is 12 cm in diameter.

The cultivar Daruma Seiji has short-round tubercles and Seiji colour body.

Cactus / furfuraceus

 A degrafted ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus was in flower yesterday afternoon.

Degrafted ariocarpus form more wool than that of own-root ones.

I disentrangled long wool by an eyebrow brush before taking the photo.

Cactus / fissuratus

 Five small ariocarpus fissuratus were in flower yesterday afternoon.

They all are 2nd flowering in this autumn.

The attached photo is one of them, in 12.5 cm square pot.

Cactus / godzilla

Flowers of ariocarpus fissuratus cv godzilla have come back.

It is 3rd flowering in this autumn for some of them.

The attached photo is one of them, around 8 cm in diameter.

Cactus / hintonii

 An ariocarpus bravoanus v hintonii was in flower yesterday.

This cactus also small. It is in 6.5 cm square pot.

I had many of this species but lost gradually by various reasons.

Cactus / alonsoi

Two turbinicarpus alonsoi were in flower yesterday.

I removed shade cloth covered over the greenhouse lately which affected sunlight strength in the greenhouse.

The photo is one of them. Alonsoi is a small cacti which is in 6.5 cm square pot.

Cactus / Shinkawa tama-zouge

 A young ariocarpus retusus cv Shinkawa tama-zouge was in flower.

It was the 1st flowering for the cactus.

This cultivar has longer nad thinner tubercles compared to a standard retusus.
