Cactus / miracle kabuto

Two matured Astrophytum asterias cv miracle kabutos were in flower yesterday afternoon.

The attached photo is one of them.

The cactus has a starfish shaped body and the decity of flecking is good enough.

It is 14 cm in diameter.

Cactus / super kabuto

 Two matured Astrophytum asterias cv super kabutos were in flower yesterday afternoon.

The attached photo is one of them.

It is around 13 cm in diameter.

Cactus / loricatum

 A gymnocalycium spegazzinii v lorivatum was in flower yesterday.

The cactus was propagated from seed. I bought seeds and sowed in 2003.

The cactus has short spines and is 14 cmin diameter which is elongated slightly.

Cactus / alonsoi

 Several turbinicarpus alonsoies were in flower in this morning.

The photo is one of them, degrafted and rooted.

Alonsoi is a small cactus, 5 cm in diameter or so but this one is 8 cm in diameter with an off-set because this one was grafted once.

Cactus / miracle kabuto

 A young Astrophytum asterias cv miracle kabuto was in flower.

Seeds were sown in 2013. Unfortunately I lost many miracle kabutos more than 20 last spring, which were same age.

The cactus is a starfish shape and 9 cm in diameter.

Cactus / fused cacti

 An astrophytum asterias cv miracle kabuto of a fused cacti was in flower.

This cacti is fused miracle kabuto and ariocarpus fissuratu.

It is the season of Astrophytum flowering and Ariocarpus will be in flower in autumn.

The cactus body is not clean because of covering over with stain.

It has reached to a mature age, 14 cm in diameter.

Cactus / red flowering asterias

 An astrophytum cv red flowering asterias was in flower in this morning.

I bought seeds of red flowering asterias many times but it was hard to get a true red flowering asterias.

The asterias on the photo is the 1st true red flowering asterias which I got.

Since the style is also red as you can see, the cactus is a true red flowering asterias.

I assume the origin of cactus in Europe and it is very small, 6 cm in diameter.

Cactus / hypogaea

 A copiapoa hypogaea was in flower yesterday.

It was just one flower.

I bought a small cactus in 2003.  It could open many flowers at once before but the cactus became weaker lately.

I hope it could survive 10 more years.

Cactus / variegated asterias

 A variegated Astrophytum asterias has pushed a flowering bud up.

Actually I had 4 variegated asterias but I lost 3 of them last spring. It has remained just one, 7 cm in diameter.

Since this one has well spread variegation, the cacts can grow by own roots.

Cactus / strobiliformis

 A pelecyphora strobiliformis was in flower yesterday.

Since this one was degafted and rooted, wool covered over body is more than that of a normal one.

The rooting of pelecyphora is quite easy. I have attmeped many times but I have never failed.

Cactus / myriostigma

 A matured astrophytum myriostigma was in flower yesterday.

Actually I foung rotting on lower part of thie cacti last spring. I cut a large section of bottom off.

It seems the rooting worked well.

Cactus / asterias

 A matured Astrophytum asterias was in flower yesterday.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2003.

This asterias is a good size, 18 cm in diameter.

Cactus / super kabuto

 It  is a cloudy day today. Since the sunlight is not strong enough, the super kabuto is hard to open the flower completely.

This super kabuto has reached to a mature age, 15 cm in diameter.

I took the photo just after the lunch.

Cactus / Astrophytum hybrid

 An astrophytum hybrid was in flower in this afternoon.

It is the hybrid, capricorne x red flowering asterias.

The hybrid has gotten stronger asterias gene shown on flower colour and body appearence.

The cactus is in a 8.5 cm square pot.

Cactus / hossei

 A gymnocalycium hossei was in flower.

I am not sure the true name but I refer to the name tag of purchased seed.

I bought seeds and sowed in 2004. The germination rate was not too bad but only one seedling has survived.

Cactus / denegrii

 An obrigonia denegrii was in flower yesterday afternoon.

I propagated this one from seed.  This species grows very slowly.

The cactus is in a 9.5 cm square pot.

Cactus / alonsoi

 Turbinicarpus alonsoi were in flower yesterday.

They all are propagated from seeds.

They are flowering size but they are quite small, in 6.5 cm square pots.

Cactus / myriostigma

 An astrophytum myriostigma v nudum was in flower.

This cactus is a standard form of myriostigma with 5 ribs.

The current size is 12 cm in diameter.

Cactus / oibo ruri kabuto

 An astrophytum asterias cv oibo ruri kabuto was in flower yesterday.

It reaches to a mature age and the location of flowering is abnormal.

The body colour was ruri colour when the asterias was young but it is pale green at moment by unknown reason.

Cactus / heterochromus

A matured Thelocactus heterochromus was in flower yesterday afternoon.

The flower of Thelocactus is quite large.

T. heterochromus was popular around 20 years ago and I bought seeds. 5 plants have still survived.
