Cactus / valdezianus

A lot of Turbinicarpus valdezianus were in flower together in the afternoon.
I rooted pups 2 years ago.
They are quite small, each one is in a 5 mm square tube.

Cactus / agavoides

The photo is Ariocarpus agavoides degrafted and set in 8 cm square pots yesterday.
I grafted very young seedlings onto pereskiopsis stocks 2 years ago.
They were in flower last autumn.
Tubercles of grafted agavoides are very short.

Cactus / asterias

An Astrophytum asterias was in flower yesterday.
It was 1st flowering of asterias in this spring.
The color of the flower is reddish, not standard one.

Cactus / myriostigma

I degrafted 2 years old Astrophytum myristigma v nudum cv khoyo, kikkou yesterday.
Seeds were sown in November 2012 and young seedlings were grafted onto Pereskiopsis stocks.
Sizes are varied but each of them in 9 cm square pot.
One of them has started to show kikkou character.

Cactus / sanchez-mejoradae

A Mammillaria sanchez-mejoradae was in flower.
This is also a small cactus, in 5 cm square tube.
I propagated this one from a pup cutting.

Cactus / valdezianus

A Turbinicarpus valdezianus was in flower in this morning.
It is a small plant, in a 5 cm square tube propagated from a seed.
Spring has come in here.

Cactus / agavoides

I repotted 7 seedlings of Ariocarpus agavoides in this morning.
I sowed seeds on 3rd September 2011.
They were grown in a wet-box under soft sunlight and high humidity conditions for 3 years.
Each seedling is in 5 cm square tube.
Tubercles of own-rooted agavoides seedlings are quite long as shown on the photo.

Cactus / denegrii

I grafted very young seedlings of Obreonia denigrii onto Pereskiopsis stocks 2 years ago.
24 seedlings were grafted in total.
I selected 11 scions which sizes were 7~9 cm diameter and degrafted them in this afternoon.
I believe O. denegrii meets Pereskiopsis stock quite well.

Cactus / miracle kabuto

A miracle kabuto shows the mutation of flecking but you do not know when it starts the mutation.
A super kabuto is similar to but it shows the mutation relatively early age.

I keep quite many miracle kabuto seedlings and select ones showing the mutation in spring.
I selected 6 plants yesterday, which were sown seeds in 2006 . The photo is one of them, 8 cm diameter.
I have washed the body by liquid baby soap and been drying before the repotting.

Cactus / sanchez-majoradae

A grafted Mammillaria sanchez-majoradae has been in flower.
I drafted a small pup in 2007.
This flowering shows "spring will be around the corner".

Cactus / germination of horstii

It is under processing of cactus seeds germination.
I use 2 heating pans for the germination and so I can process anytime through a year.
I can set 18 of 10 cm square pots at a batch.
The current one is the 3rd batch in this season.
I sowed seeds on 5th of this month and some of them have been germinated already.
The photo is Discocactus horstii.
I was a bit worried about the freshness of seeds because these seeds were harvested in 2012.
It seems alright, showing a good germination rate.

Cactus / furfuraceus

6 of Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Sugri-cauliflower have grown well.
Each of them was in a 9 cm square pot but it was too tight.
I repotted them into 12 cm square pot in this morning.
They are 4 years old, sown seeds on 2nd October 2010.
24 of young seedlings were grafted on Pereskiopsis and grown for 2 years.
I degrafted them with a short stock, 15 mm length 2 years ago.
6 of all have still relies on short stocks, no roots have come out from the main body yet.

Cactus / Ariocarpus seedings

The flowering season of Astrophytum has not been in here yet but I now can feel a hint of spring when I was in my backyard.
It is the time of sowing cactus seeds and repotting young seedlings and so I spend quite busy time.
I have completed 1 year old Astrophytum seedlings and have commenced to repot Ariocarpus seedlings.
