Cactus / red bean

The is a grafted Astrophytum myriostigma v nudum cv red bean khoyo kikkou.
I sowed seeds last November and grafted 12 of very young seedlings onto Pereskiopsis stocks.
Since the temperature in the morning becomes lower, the plant has started to turn its body color.

Cactus / tri-fingers on a stick

This 2 years old flowering Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv tri-fingers is grafted on a Pereskiopsis stock.
The stock of Pereskiopsis will loose leaves in second winter and reduces growing speed of the scion dramatically. The coming winter is the second winter for the plant on the photo.
I will degraft this one next spring.

Cactus / Ariocarpus

This is a 3 years old Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri-cauliflower.
A short, 15 mm length of Pereskiopsis is remained and buried into pottingmix.
The plant relies upon roots come out from the Pereskiopsis at moment.
Since the Pereskiopsis is not a permanent stock, it will die within 2 years.
Roots will come out from the scion when the stock died.
I experienced good results of this rooting method with kotschoubeyanus.
I set 24 of cauliflowers and they are under trial.

Cactus / fissuratus

This Ariocarpus fissuratus is grafted onto a Echinopsis.
It seems the Echinopsis works well as a permanent grafting stock.
I will build up numbers of Echinopsis grafting stocks.

Cactus / cultivar Daruma Royal

This is an Ariocarpus retusus v major cv Daruma Royal.
I bought seeds and sowed on 30/09/2004.
Several young seedlings were grafted and degrafted later.
This one is one of them, own-rooted plant.
Since the plant has grow too large, I need a repotting next spring.

Cactus / Ariocarpus hybrid

It is not so hard to create an Ariocarpus hybrid.
An issue is the body size of the hybrid, small.
I believe it comes from the hybridization related matter.
The photo is a 1st filial hybrid, kotshoubeyanus x bravoanus v hintonii.
I grafted more than 10 seedlings, showing various appearances. All of them are quite small.

Cactus / kotschoubeyanus

Although the period form sown seeds to flowering of normal Ariocarpus is quite long but kotschoubeyanus is relatively short. If you propagated it well the period is around 4 years. The photo is a kotschoubeyanus seedling, sown seeds in 2006. This one started to be in flower when it was 4 years old.

Cactus / hanazono kabuto

The maximum temperature of yesterday was 30 C'and it will be 31 C' today.
Unusual high temperature days have been continued.
Another asterias cultivar, hanazno kabuto was in flower yesterday.

Cactus / asterias

Although it is in autumn, the temperature of higher 20 C' has been continued.
Because of that, some Astrophytum asterias are in flower.

Cactus / trigonus

This is a grafted Ariocarpus retusus v trigonus.
I bought seeds and sowed on 11/08/2005, and grafted young seedlings.
As I told yesterday, the appearance of torigonus is very similar to elongatus.
The flower color is also very similar.

Cactus / elongatus

Ariocarpus retusus v elongatus is very similar to trigonus.
I can not say how they are different.
The photo is a grafted A. retusus v elongatus f CDS45, sown seeds on 31/08/2006 and grafted a young seedling.

Cactus / tri-fingers

I bought seeds of Ariocarpus retusus cv tri-fingers and sowed on 11/08/2005.
I grafted several young seedlings.
This is one of them, not showing the character of tri-fingers at all unfortunately.

Cactus / Ariocarpus cultivar

A grafted Ariocarpus v retusus cv Shinkawa Tama Zouge was in flower yesterday.
Since the body size has been too large, I will degraft it next spring.

Cactus / cauliflower

I sowed seeds of Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri-cauliflower on 11/08/2005.
Several seedlings were grafted but only 2 were taken well.
The attached photo is one of 2, is not perfect cauliflower but it is showing some of cauliflower characters.

Cactus / retusus v jarmilae

Although Ariocarpus retusus has several variations, it is hard to say how much different they are.
I bought seeds of A. retusus v jarmilae MM110 and sowed on 31/08/2006.
I grafted some young seedlings.
The photo is one of them, was in flower yesterday.

Cactus / fissuratus

I grafted a pup of Ariocarpus fissuratus f Big Bend onto a Echinopsis stock years ago.
Although the stock has turned to a woody form, the scion has still survived.
This one is in flower every year in this season.

Cactus / retusus

This own-root Ariocarpus retusu is in my greenhouse years.
I bought seeds and sowed on 30/08/2003.
I grafted young seedlings and degrafted later when the scion became large enough.
The rooting of retusus is not difficult.
If you used a special rooting medium, the rooting process is completed within 3 months.

Cactus / fissuratus

Seedlings of Ariocarpus grow slowly normally.
I have tried to change the slow speed to "a reasonable speed" by various propagating methods.
The photo is an A. fissuratus sown seeds on 30/08/2006.
1st flower of this seedling was in 2011.
I think I can find a method to increase growing speed more.

Cacus / retusus v bicolor

Several Ariocarpus retusus v bicolor were in flower yesterday.
I did crossings.

I bought 10 seeds of A. retusus v bicolor  n. prov. KMR61 and sowed on 31/08/2006.
Some of  very young seedlings were grated.
The photo is one of them.
