Cactus / Cutting season

I do cuttings in winter, less possibility of rotting out.
I keep them until spring, around 2 months before the starting of rooting process.
Aerial roots may develop during this drying period.
I started cuttings yesterday.
The photo is an Echinocactus horizontharonius under drying process.

Cactus / kotschoubeyanus

Some of Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus f Rio Verde are still in flower.
I degrafted this one last spring.
It seems taken and all right now.

Cactus / Ariocarpus seedlings

I repot 25 of one year old seedlings into a 10 cm square pot in spring.
This repotting accelerates the growing speed but gives some casualties of seedlings.
The photo is Aiocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Sugri cauliflower repotted last spring.
Fortunately there are no casualties in this pot.
I will do the second repotting in September.

Cactus / super kabuto

An other super kabuto was in flower yesterday.
This plant has coarser flecking than the one I posted on 21st in this month.
The size of the body is around 10 cm.

Cactus / miracle kabuto

Although it was in winter,yesterday was a bit warm.
One of miracle kabutos was in flower.
This plant is quite small, just 5 cm diameter.
All others germinated together are almost 10 cm diameter.
The growing failure during very young seedling affects on the future growing speed.

Cactus / miracle kabuto seedlings

The photo is miracle kabuto seedings repotted last spring in 10 cm square pot.
I will repot again in August.
The next repotting will be a critical pass for them because I will cut tap roots out completely.
I will make some casualties but this process is necessary for their future.

Cactus / calvata

My collections of South American are not so many.
The photo is a Neoporteria calvata v serananna.
The appearance of the flower looks like made by plastic.

Cactus / ruri kabuto

I have attempted to make a new form, ruri kabuto x super kabuto.
The new form should be azure body with white flecking.
Seedlings appearances are varied from no flecking to full flecking.
The plant on the attached photo has no flecking, very similar to the mother.

Cactus / super kabuto

Some of super kabutos have still been in flower.
Since it is in winter, the size of flower is quite small.
I will repot all saterias in August.

Cactus /asterias

Not so many but a few A. asterias have been in flower.
The attached photo is one of them.
It is quite cold in the morning but the temperature in the greenhouse reaches to 30 C' in the afternoon.

Cactus / Ariocarpus hybrid

The photo is an Ariocarpus hybrid, kotschoubeyanus x bravoanus v hintonii.
I sowed seeds on 07/10/2009.
12 young seedlings were grafted. This is one of them.
Both of  body and flower appearances are intermediate between parents.

Cactus / pectinifera

The winter solstice is very soon and the maximum temperature of daytime can not reach to 20 C'.
Some of Mammillaria pectinifera seedlings have started to be in flower.
I sowed seeds on 27/07/2007.
The diameter of the plant is around 5 cm.

Cactus / alonsoi seedlings

These seedlings of Turbinicarpus alonsoi are aslo propagated from my seeds.
I sowed seeds on 19/08/2012.
They have grown well and packed up a 10 cm square pot.
I will repot them incoming September.

Cactus / aselliformis seedlings

I collected seeds of Pelecyphora selliformis from my own plants and sowed on 19/08/2012.
The success rate of germination was very good.
I grafted 24 seedlings and kept rest as own-rooted ones.
They have grown with a reasonable speed.

Cactus / fissuratus

This grafted Ariocarpus fissuratus is also very young, 8 months old.
The Peskiopsis stock seems very vigorous even in winter.
The scion, fissuratus has started to show its original character.

Cactus / kotschoubeyanus

The post of yesterday was spring flowers but it is autumn one for today.
Some of Ariocarpus kotschoueyanus have still been in flower.
Spring and autumn are mixed in my greenhouse currently.

Cactus / dasyacantha

The spring will be around corner when the winter has came.
The winter in here is quite short.
A grafted Mammillaria lauii v dasyacnatha is in flower.
I bought 20 seeds and sowed on 31/08/2006.
I grafted several seedlings but just 2 plants has survived.
Dasyacantha is in flower early spring normally.

Cactus / hintonii

A grafted Ariocarpus bravoanus v hintonii has also returned to be in flower.
Ariocarpus is growing very slowly, especially hintonii is.
I have several seedlings sown seeds in 2006.
They are still 20 mm diameter.

Cactus / agavoides

Flowers of Ariocarpus agavoides have come back by unknown reasons.
The photo is a grafted one onto a Perskiopsis stock.
I sowed seeds on 11/11/2012 and grafted 12 very young seedlings.
I can clearly see 4 fruits also.

Cactus / buiningii

Not so many cactus flowers are in my greenhouse currently because of winter.
The photo is a grafted Ubelmannia buiningii.
Buiningii is in flower through a year.
This species is one of my favorite cacti and I try to increase numbers.

Today's post is also for a young cactus, grafted Obregonia denegrii, 6 months old.
I grafted 24 seedlings onto Pereskiopsis stocks.
It is the begining of winter but they are growing continuously.

Cactus / myriostigma v nudum

This grafted cactus is also less than one year old.
The cactus is Astrophytum myriostigma v nudum cv khoyo, kikkou.
It is just 20 mm diameter though, the body starts to shows khoyo character.
